The Marcy Miller Foundation was founded in 2001 to operate as a grant making entity, supporting organizations and specific projects in the areas of education, health, social services, the arts, and other charitable purposes, to be selected annually.

This 501 ( c ) 3 Private Foundation was founded by the Loren and Susan Miller Family in memory of their daughter Marcia Elizabeth Miller who died in an airplane crash in Botswana, Africa on August 26, 1996 at the age of 23.

Marcy Miller grew up in Glenview, IL and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School from kindergarten through eighth grade. She continued her education at St. Ignatius College Prep, Chicago and Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. While at Boston College Marcy designed an independent major in Museum Studies combining studio art, art history and business courses. She studied in Florence, Italy during the second semester of her junior year. Upon graduation, Marcy worked in London and then went on to Botswana, Africa as a graphic artist and photographer. It was here that Marcy met Allistair Torr, a zoologist Ph. D. candidate, who furthered her interest in African culture.

In the spring of 1996, Marcy and Allistair Torr visited the Academy of St. Benedict the African (ASBA) Laflin Campus to give a slide presentation to the children on the animals of Africa. Kate Miller, Marcy's sister, was teaching third grade at ASBA and was happy to have opportunity to bring her sister, Allistair and the children together.

This first memorial to Marcy is Marcy Park, a refurbished play area at ASBA. This project was completed in 1998. Additional support of ASBA scholarship needs were continued through a series of Marcy Parties from 1997 through 1999.
